BUJUMBURA February 8th (ABP) – The Director General of National Education, Mr. Paul Hakizimana, proceeded on Friday, February 3, 2023 at the Hope Africa University (UEA campus Ngagara), to the opening of the 2023-2024 academic year and participated in the graduation ceremonies for 988 graduates of the 18th promotion.

On that occasion, the Director General of National Education congratulated the UEA for the step taken in the evaluation and amendment of the programs with a view to improvement and better compliance with the law in force. He also appreciated the response given to the concern for adequacy – training – employment, which allows young people to have more chances for employment with regard to the current socio-economic situation. He did not fail to point out that the UEA will always be able to count on the support and expertise of the technical services of the ministry, in particular the national commission for higher education.

According to him, as its name suggests, the UEA must work in such a way as to continue to give hope to the populations of the region, in search for bread, peace, justice, sustainable development and many other values that humanity needs. Mr. Hakizimana also commended the inclusive character of the UEA which makes it special. He explained that this university is a mosaic of young people admitted in their differences of gender, nationality, culture, religion, physical disability and others. Given the importance that has been given to internships in university training today, he called on public and private institutions and companies to contribute to training by accepting to receive and effectively supervise student interns recommended to them by universities.

The 988 graduates were urged to remain true to the principles and values of their university, their church and to be dignified, law-abiding citizens dedicated to the service of the country. They have also been called on to be good servant leaders in whom all those who have invested in their training will recognize themselves.

UEA Vice Chancellor, Dr. Victor Barantota, called on students enrolled in that university to attend lectures. He called on the graduates of the 18th promotion to stay true to all they have received from UEA and be solutions instead of being problems in the community. He pointed out that UEA took inception in 2000 in Nairobi, Kenya, and plans to open campuses in the interior of the country apart from the one already in Gitega province.
