CANKUZO January 9th (ABP) – The Assistant to the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Emmanuel Ndorimana, is satisfied with the achievements of the Office for the Development of Coffee in Burundi (ODECA), in terms of the development of coffee cultivation.

This was revealed during a visit he made on Friday, January 6, 2023, along with provincial authorities, to the 12ha coffee field and the coffee pulping-washing station construction site located on Gitwenge hill, in Gisagara commune, Cankuzo province, before setting up coffee plants on Kibungo hill in Kigamba commune, in a 30ha site the following day

Indeed, Mr. Ndorimana gave ODECA a mark of 90% for achievements and pointed out that the ODECA celebrated three years of existence on Saturday, January 7, 2023, adding that it was created to put an end to the challenges faced by this crop since the period of its privatization.

Thus, he indicated, the irregularity of payment which was observed before its existence has already been removed. “Today we run with the extension of coffee fields to increase production and serve as an example to the population, but also with the construction of washing stations”, he said.

Regarding the lack of fertilizer, the minister’s assistant said there was a supply problem, promising that they will soon be available.

According to the Director General of ODECA, out of 50 ha of coffee fields that they have set themselves to achieve since 2021, each year, in the provinces of intervention, they have reached 106 ha. They owe the success to the efforts of various institutions of the people and the Government, citing, among other things, the law enforcement, schools and individuals, moreover, to the increase in the price of coffee harvested.

He promised to spare no effort for the promotion of that crop and undertook to continue the collaboration with the persons in charge of the offices of the environment agriculture and livestock of all the levels, for the sharing of techniques and knowledge to increase production across the country.
