The participation of the Head of State in the 18th summit of Francophone community crowned with success

BUJUMBURA November 24th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, returned on Monday, November 21, 2022 from Djerba in Tunisia, where he took part in the work of the 18th summit of Francophone community.

Upon his arrival at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, President Ndayishimiye told the media that the 18th summit of Francophone community saw the participation of several Heads of State who had the opportunity to work in groups, where each of expressed their opinions and constructive ideas to them.

He pointed out that they have generally taken up the challenges that hinder working in synergy, especially in the use of information technologies and the inclusion of women and girls in the development works.

The Head of State said he had the opportunity to speak on the state of play of the French language in Burundi but also at the level of the East African Community (EAC). In the case of Burundi, it was felt that the developed countries in the field could make their contribution so that Burundi can be equipped with modern libraries.

The President of the Republic and President-in-Office of the EAC indicated that his participation in the 18th summit of Francophone community was crowned with success because, he explained, he had the opportunity to meet fruitfully with several international political leaders.

In his interview with the President of the Republic of Tunisia, the two personalities reviewed the cooperation relations that exist between their countries. They agreed to promote them by signing certain Mutual Assistance Agreements in the field of the economy and processing industries. A Burundian team and a Tunisian team will soon meet for the effective implementation of these agreements.

President Ndayishimiye also spoke with his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, who is at the same time president of the community of member countries of the European Union (EU). The President of France promised to support Burundi in the field of agriculture, he reported.

Regarding the issue of peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the president of the community of EU member countries congratulated the president of the EAC for the ongoing work of bringing peace to the East of the DRC. President Macron welcomed the presence of the Burundi Defense Forces in South Kivu because, he said, that region is now peaceful.

President Macron has pledged to support the EAC so that the DRC can be peaceful like other countries.
