The National Assembly approved Mrs. Aimée Laurentine Kanyana as new Burundian ombudsman

BUJUMBURA November 18th (ABP) – The National Assembly met on Thursday November 17 at the Kigobe hemicycle to approve the new Burundian ombudsman.

After all procedures for the pre-selection and selection of candidates made by the commission responsible for determining the terms of reference and the pre-selection of the candidate of the 3rd ombudsman, 4 candidates were selected, said that commission during the presentation of the report. They were, among others, Mr. Mazimpaka Issa Désiré, Mrs. Aimée Laurentine Kanyana, Me Évrard Giswaswa and Me Jean Samandari.

At the end of that plenary session, the National Assembly chaired by Mr. Gélase Daniel Ndabirabe, approved Mrs. Aimée Laurentine Kanyana as the 3rd Burundian ombudsman with 109 votes out of 120 MPs who participated in that session. Remember that, in accordance with article 239 of the constitution of Burundi, the Burundian ombudsman is appointed by the National Assembly by a majority of three quarters of its members and his mandate is six years non-renewable.
