KIRUNDO November 11th (ABP) – Some 28 bicycles, 28 android phones, registers, umbrellas and backpacks were donated on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 to the capital of Kirundo province (north of Burundi) by the institution from the ombudsman under UNDP funding to members of mediation networks working on behalf of the same institution in order to facilitate their work, noted the ABP on site.

The representative of this institution, Mr. Gérard Nkunzimana indicated that the reports from the administration show them that these mediation networks contribute a lot in the peaceful resolution of conflicts, that is why they are supported with equipment. One of the beneficiaries of that material, Mrs. Spès Caritas Havyarimana, said that their work has contributed to the reduction of conflicts between State institutions and the population because, she indicated, the population of Kirundo has been aware that it is always necessary to discuss disputes with a view to finding solutions without filing complaints with the courts.

As for the adviser to the governor in charge of social affairs, Mr. Jean Baptiste Kwizera, he indicated that these mediation networks should not be confused with the recently elected village notables because the latter collaborate with the justice system and deal with all the disputes found within from the community. It should be noted that these mediators are 28 in number in Kirundo province, i.e. 4 per commune.
