BUJUMBURA, OCTOBER 22nd (ABP) The leader of the Sahwanya-Frodebu party, Pierre Claver Nahimana, hosted on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in Bujumbura, a press conference to make public a statement issued by the said party relating to the assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye, celebrated within the party under the main theme “29 years after the assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye, is there hope for a better tomorrow for the people of Burundi?”, a check by ABP revealed.

Mr. Pierre Claver Nahimana first recalled that on October 21, 1993, the enemies of democracy in Burundi decided to decapitate the young nascent democracy by wildly assassinating the President of the Republic, Melchior Ndadaye, who had just been elected for the first time through democratic elections.

Mr. Nahimana said that the 29th commemoration of the memory of the National Hero of Democracy during this month of October 2022, is a good time to remember and meditate on his heritage, namely, the establishment of a new Burundi which contrasts with the horrors that the country had known before 1993.

Although the Government of Burundi has already taken a step to bring to the courts the perpetrators of the assassination of President Melchior Ndadaye, the leader of the Sahwanya-Frodebu party finds that there is still a long way. Nahimana calls on the government and its entire judiciary to quickly finalize the process, prosecute all coup plotters wherever they are and organize fair compensation for all rights holders.

To that end, the Sahwanya-Frodebu party recommends that the government speed up the process initiated by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CVR) and extend it to other periods that have bereaved Burundi, such as the crises of 1988 and 1993, in order to promote genuine and sincere reconciliation as a necessary platform for development programs.

The Sahwanya-Frodebu party also recommends that the government set up a more favorable and attractive framework for local or foreign private investors, especially those who want to invest in the productive industrial and agro-business sectors likely to create many jobs capable of alleviate the problem of unemployment and economic exile, and generate viable economic development of the nation, in the short and long term.

Finally, the Sahwanya-Frodebu party reiterates its recommendations to always remember and keep in mind the legacy of President Ndadaye Melchior. It also promises to work everywhere for peace and security for all, to discourage all those who would advocate violence and to advocate national reconciliation in the villages, cities and administration, sharing and mutual assistance.
