BUBANZA September 12th (ABP) – The Attorney General of the Republic, Mr. Sylvestre Nyandwi, proceeded, Thursday, September 8, 2022, to the provisional release of 19 defendants from the central prison of Bubanza (north-west of Burundi), a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

In his speech, the Attorney General of the Republic indicated that this provisional release of the defendants is part of the implementation of the appeal of the President of the Republic, that defendants with minor offenses continue to appear being free. He invited them to continue their appearance at the prosecution and in the courts until their cases are closed. He also called on them to cohabit well with those who brought them to justice and to avoid making fun of them. The other call being to indulge in self-development projects and to cut short with packages that bring them to prison, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The Attorney General of the Republic asks judicial police officers and prosecutors to avoid the detention of defendants who have committed minor offenses, or those who agree to pay damages.

Note that the central prison of Bubanza houses 512 prisoners, including 8 infants, while its capacity is 200 people.
