Swearing in of the new Prime Minister of Burundi

BUJUMBURA September 8th (ABP) – The new Prime Minister of Burundi, Mr. Gervais Ndirakobuca, was sworn in on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Kigobe hemicycle, before the President of the Republic, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye and parliament gathered in congress.

In accordance with article 138 of the Burundian constitution, the new Prime Minister Ndirakobuca has sworn loyalty to the Charter of National Unity, to the Constitution and to the law.

He pledged to devote all his forces to defending the higher interests of the nation, to promoting the unity and cohesion of the Burundian people, peace and social justice in the performance of the functions entrusted to him.

The new Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi is also committed to combating any ideology and practice of genocide and exclusion and to promoting and defending the rights and freedoms of individuals and citizens.

Article 133 of the same constitution specifies that the Prime Minister leads and coordinates the action of the government. He chairs preparatory meetings of the Cabinet meeting, it is added.

Note that the incoming Prime Minister, Mr. Gervais Ndirakobuca, who was Minister of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security, replaces the outgoing Prime Minister, Mr. Alain Guillaume Bunyoni.
