The President of the Republic received in audience the ambassador of the Netherlands in Burundi and the representative of ECAC in Burundi

BUJUMBURA September 6th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye received Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Ntare Rushatsi Palace, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Burundi Mr. Jeroen Steeghs.

After the audience, the Ambassador of the Netherlands said that the meeting with the Head of State focused on the bilateral relations between Burundi and the Netherlands. He also took this opportunity to specify that the Netherlands are in the process of formulating a new strategic plan for the next few years from 2023 to 2027.

Mr. Jeroen did not fail to point out that the low countries in Burundi intervene in the areas of food security, nutrition, reproductive and sexual health, youth and employment, human rights and good governance. According to the ambassador of the Netherlands, the latter intend to continue cooperation in these areas mentioned above with an envelope of 160 million euros for the next 5 years. The interview also touched on the economic and political situation in Burundi.

Afterwards, the Head of State also received in audience the representative of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) in Burundi Mr. Jean – Jacques DEMAFOUTH.

Mr. Jean Jacques said that he had come to present to the President of the Republic of Burundi the message of the President of the ECCAS Commission Mr. Gilberto Da Piedade Verissimo. He also indicated that a month ago, he was chosen by the chairman of the ECCAS commission as the representative of ECCAS at the point of the Republic of Burundi, in accordance with the recommendation from the summit of heads of state saying that there will be a representation of ECCAS in different member countries.
