The President of the Republic of Burundi received in audience the new Resident Representative of the World Bank

BUJUMBURA September 6th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye received Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Ntare Rushatsi Palace, the new Resident Representative of the World Bank Ms. Hawa Cissé Wagué.

At the end of the hearing, Mrs. Hawa Cissé told the press that their meeting focused on the development of Burundi, specifying that the President of the Republic of Burundi presented to her his vision of the development of the country. The resident representative of the World Bank reported that she appreciated the focus of the President of the Republic of Burundi on the fact that “every mouth must have food and every pocket must have money”, explaining that it coincides with the World Bank’s development objectives, which are to fight against poverty and promote shared economic growth.

She also added that we discussed the importance of having infrastructure in the country, particularly in the field of transport to connect the different regions and the different villages to the market. It is the same in the energy sector where the vision by 2030, there will be access to energy for all. The representative of the World Bank in Burundi promised that the World Bank will help so that these two areas are further strengthened.

According to Mrs. Hawa, the President of the Republic of Burundi also insisted on the implementation of existing projects in the country, asking the World Bank to work together with the government of Burundi for the rapid implementation of these projects so that the impact is felt at the level of the populations and that we fight against poverty in an effective way. Mrs. Hawa Cissé took that opportunity to point out that the World Bank’s portfolio is already more than a billion dollars in Burundi. The World Bank has also promised that it is willing to support Burundi in establishing good governance.

The deputy spokesperson for the President of the Republic of Burundi Munezero Doriane said that the President of the Republic of Burundi and the new representative of the World Bank also discussed the “Merankabandi” project which will start soon in all the provinces of the country with an amount of more than 150 million US dollars. The Head of State and the World Bank all want to see this project change the lives of the beneficiary populations.
