BUJUMBURA July 5th (ABP) – The President of the Republic, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience on Saturday July 2, 2022, Ambassador Stéphane Doppagne, special envoy of King Philippe of Belgium.

According to the Deputy Spokesman of the President of the Republic, Mr. Alain Diomède Nzeyimana, that ambassador came to take part in the ceremonies of the 60th anniversary of the independence of Burundi. He also came with a letter sent by the Belgian Prime Minister, and this letter, he continued to say, shows how the new relationship between the two countries will be.

Mr. Nzeyimana said that, during the audience, the President of the Republic of Burundi asked that Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to open all the secrets, whether written or other elements, to understand Belgium’s past on Burundi in the same way, for the relations between the two countries to be solid.

President Ndayishimiye has also asked Belgium to help Burundi in its development projects and Burundians will gradually understand that those who destroyed them in the past are in the process of correcting themselves, Mr. Nzeyimana pointed out. He also indicated that they have ended their exchanges on the question of peace which is currently haunting the Democratic Republic of Congo.

To this issue, the President of the Republic of Burundi indicated that it will be resolved shortly because all the EAC Heads of State have taken it in hand, he said.
