RUYIGI April 14th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, paid a visit to Ruyigi province on Wednesday, April 13.

During a moralization session which took place at the Urumuri stadium, the President of the Republic met with people and the heads of the various services in both the public and private sectors.

The dialogue was mainly focused on good governance and development. He also called on the Youth Investment Bank (BIJE) as well as that for women and the Economic Empowerment and Employment Program (PAEEJ) to mobilize part of their staff to go to the different localities of the country, in the places where people exercise their development work in order to encourage them and teach them to invest in those institutions.

During that awareness session, the President of the Republic of Burundi indicated that every Burundian citizen has the civic duty to contribute morally, materially or physically to the socio-economic development of his/her country. Thus, he stressed that it is imperative for everyone to develop love of labor and endorse any measure aimed at strengthening social cohesion through cooperative work so that the whole population can move forward and make an economic breakthrough.

In terms of good governance, the President of the Republic called on administrative officials, as well as anyone with a position, function or title of leader, to serve as a good model and positive testimony, in their entourage and elsewhere in front of all their compatriots so that they can lead a blameless life. Otherwise, all the leaders that do not have such a quality should in fact be put on rest so that people who better understand the direction of the government can take over.

With regard to development, President Ndayishimiye said that the Burundian population must learn how to invest and this is the duty of banking institutions such as the BIJE, the PAEEJ as well as the women’s bank, to abandon the work carried out only in the offices, but to search for the customers in the different villages, at the sites and workplaces of the ordinary Burundian who practices his/her agriculture near his/her home. President Ndayishimiye encourages Burundians and people from Ruyigi in particular to have this culture of savings and investment so that they can achieve sustainable development, taking into account the national development plan.

President Ndayishimiye finally gave the people of Ruyigi the opportunity to express their grievances and most of those who spoke returned to cases of badly settled disputes and judgments rendered by the courts in a biased way that did not take facts into account and those rendered without enough caution, some being considered to have been corrupted by one of the parties in conflict. The President of the Republic then gave the opportunity to the authorities of the various courts present at the session to express themselves on the questions posed by people. Thus, for the cases which did not have immediate answers, a commission charged with collecting the various cases of litigation concerned was set up to begin its work on Thursday, April 14 in the premises of the provincial offices.

The President of the Republic ended his visit to Ruyigi province on a site where a vegetable field is erected, located on the Ngarama hill considered as a center of agricultural radiation. He invited people from the other provinces of the country to take this good example to prepare such fields in order to tackle the shortage of vegetables and fruits during the summer period.
