MWARO April 5th (ABP) – The Deputy President of the Republic of Burundi, Prosper Bazombanza joined forces on Friday with members of a local association of Kizi village, Makamba zone in Rusaka commune, Mwaro province (center-west of Burundi), picking tea and weeding beans in his fields on his native village.

Mr. Bazombanza reminded the people who had come to listen to his message that the watchword of the President of the Republic Evariste Ndayishimiye is to increase agricultural production by favoring food crops on the one hand and cash crops, on the other hand somewhere else. Those fields of about 2 hectares of tea are operated in collaboration with a local association.

That association takes care of the labor and half of the remuneration goes to the association after the sale.

The Deputy President of the Republic told the people that he should lead by example in agriculture and livestock as a leader.

Mr. Bazombanza explained to the people the advantages of tea cultivation. The association is remunerated up to half of the amount paid after the sale of the production to the Burundi Tea Office (OTB). The country also collects foreign currencies because all the production of that tea field is exported.

Note that the communal administrator of Rusaka and the governor of Mwaro province had responded to that work.
