CANKUZO February 24th (ABP) – Cleaning work at the Murore hospital in Gisagara commune, Cankuzo province (eastern Burundi), has become almost impossible following the lack of water for a week. This was revealed by nurses and patients at that hospital in an interview with a check by ABP.

The nurses and the patients themselves deplore that the hygiene work becomes difficult for them, explaining that they draw water far from the hospital.

The problem is also noted by the deputy director of the hospital, Dr Aimée Nadia Uwikunze.

She indicates that water used for hygiene is that of the rain that is collected in tanks, but, the patients sometimes do not benefit from it due to its small quantity.

She pleads for the repair or replacement of the safety fuse of the machine that pumps water supplying that hospital from the hydroelectric center of Rusumo which was struck down early the past week.

To that issue, the officials of the hydraulic sector in Gisagara commune reassure the people. They promise that another replacement machine may arrive at any moment.

Note that this water from the Rusumo hydroelectric center also supplies many villages in Gisagara commune, including the center of Gasenyi which is on the Burundian-Tanzanian border.
