BUJUMBURA February 22nd  (ABP) – The “Clean and green generation” project implemented by the Center for the production and distribution of Christian literature (CEPRODILIC), Action for development and environmental protection (ADEPE) in consortium with Kage and Ishaka 2250, proceeded, on Wednesday February 16th , 2022, to the inauguration activities of the development work of the new waste dump site and the installation of public trash cans in different localities of Ntahangwa commune, in Bujumbura City Council (western Burundi).

The Director General of CEPRODILIC, Mr. Emmanuel Irumva, indicated that the new waste dump site is located in Mutara, Maramvya zone of Mutimbuzi commune in Bujumbura province. He specified that this site under development comprises five hectares and will help to collect waste from different places in the city of Bujumbura. He added that this waste will be useful for the manufacture of manure, briquettes and biogas to name but a few.

The head of the general management of CEPRODILIC also pointed out that this project will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and job creation through awareness-raising and training of young people in the rational management of waste. For that, he said that they have given jobs to 70 women and 30 men for development work on that site and indicated that a number equivalent to 100 young people from all over the country have received that training.

Asked about something new from that project, Mr. Irumva said that they have established two trash cans of different colors that will help distinguish where you can put biodegradable waste and non-biodegradable waste.

He did not forget to specify that they have set up those garbage bins at the Cotebu market, before indicating that they plan to set up others very close to the Roi Khaled hospital and that they intend to set up 20 trash bins in different places in the city of Bujumbura.

As for the administrator of Ntahangwa commune, Mr. Ernest Niyonzima, he said that this project came at the right time because the mayor of the city of Bujumbura continues to sensitize the people to be concerned about the hygiene of the city. He asks the people of that municipality to take care of those garbage cans and to use them properly.
