Official launch of the week dedicated to the fighter

BUJUMBURA November 18th (ABP) – The secretary general of the CNDD-FDD political party, Mr. Révérien Ndikuriyo, on Tuesday November 16, in the premises of the national office of this party, officially launched the week dedicated to the fighter, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

Mr. Ndikuriyo, in his speech for the occasion, reminded ruling party activists and guests of honor that November 16 remains the unforgettable day in the country’s history. That is the date on which the ceasefire was signed in 2003 between the government of Burundi at that time and the combatants of the CNDD-FDD which later became a political party. It was in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, he said.

“This day when we start the week dedicated to the fighter reminds a lot of things to the survivors of the war which lasted about ten years”, indicated Mr. Ndikuriyo, noting that the fight of which we celebrate the victory began in 1993, after the war. assassination of the democratically elected President of the Republic, the late Melchior Ndadaye.

According to the secretary general of the ruling party, the fighters have given themselves body and soul to the defense of democracy. “To give oneself for the good of others and of the country is a vocation”, he insisted, believing that the combatants deserve great respect.

Mr. Ndikuriyo also said that the theme chosen this year falls within the framework of sustainable development. This theme calls on wise men to support responsible and hard-working government by joining cooperatives in order to improve production so that every mouth has food and every pocket has money.

He also stressed that the gun fight is over, that there remains the fight against poverty and that of maintaining the democracy acquired thanks to the vocation of the wise men of the CNDD-FDD. It is in this context that he asked them to be sociable and to collaborate mutually in order to share the raw and the cooked.

To the officials from the said party, he recommended to safeguard peace and security in all places and in all circumstances. He hoped that they would be carriers of solutions to all the problems that arise in their constituencies, without any discrimination.

The Secretary General of the CNDD-FDD ended his remarks by thanking the guests of honor, including the Vice-President of the Republic, the wife of the late President Melchior Ndadaye, the representatives of certain political parties approved in Burundi, the representatives of civil society organizations as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Burundi.

It should be noted that these ceremonies marking the launch of the week dedicated to the combatant began with an ecumenical prayer centered on thanksgiving. An intention was made to implore the Almighty in memory of those who lost their lives in the fight before its completion.
