The Head of State has received in audience the Ambassador of the United States of America in Burundi

GITEGA November 17th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience Tuesday, November 16, at the presidential palace of Gitega (central Burundi), the United States Ambassador of America in Burundi, Mrs. Mélanie Harris Higgins, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

They discussed the cooperation relations between their countries which, they recognized, are in good shape, said the spokesperson for the Head of State of Burundi, Ms. Evelyne Butoyi, in a press briefing.

President Ndayishimiye and Ambassador Higgins agreed that the two countries will continue to strengthen their long-standing cooperative relationship in several areas such as Agriculture and Livestock, Public Health, Electricity and Economy of Burundi.

The Ambassador of the United States of America appreciated the efforts made by the government of Burundi to maintain peace and security and to ensure the development of the Burundian population. It also commended the positive development of bilateral relations between the United States of America and Burundi, which have existed for a long time.

Ambassador Higgins signaled that his government will give Burundi this year $ 65 million in donations that will be used in several sectors. She notably cited the sectors of humanitarian aid, health and economic growth. She indicated that her government would like to support Burundi’s economy.

There are other companies making investments in Burundi in other sectors, she said, referring to the case of the Kibuye hospital which benefits from the financial support of the United States of America as well as American doctors, including surgeons. There are also Americans who intervene in the sectors of the extension of electricity, in the fields of Agriculture and that of Mines.

The Burundi Head of State congratulated the Ambassador of the United States of America for the efforts made in several sectors of national life so that bilateral relations between the United States of America and Burundi continue to be successful.
