GITEGA Sept 16th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience, on Wednesday September 15, the Italian Ambassador to Burundi, Massimiliano Mazzanti, at the presidential palace of the political capital Gitega where they discussed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and development relations between these two countries.
The Italian ambassador notably promised an envelope of one million seven hundred thousand euros (1,700,000 euros) which will be used to promote the tomato crop in Burundi.
During their exchanges, the Head of State of Burundi and the Ambassador of Italy spoke about the state of play of bilateral cooperation and development relations between these two countries and the mechanisms to strengthen them.
The Italian Ambassador congratulated the Head of State of Burundi for the progress made a year after his inauguration in power in the sectors of good governance, democracy, the fight against corruption and economic embezzlement.
The Italian Ambassador thus promised to strengthen bilateral cooperation relations for the agricultural sector. He also proposed to the Head of State the project to promote the electricity sector which is an important factor in developing the country.
The ambassador who indicated that Burundi is currently the privileged partner of Italy stressed that he will return to Burundi in a few months to meet the President of the Republic of Burundi and make the report on the state of play of all bilateral cooperation projects.
As part of the strengthening of relations of cooperation and friendship between these two countries, Italy intends to install soon the offices of the new Italian consul in Burundi, the ambassador announced.
