Towards the organization of a Covid-19 screening campaign in all boarding schools from the next school year

BUJUMBURA August 26th (ABP) – Since the appearance of the first cases of Covid- 19 in Burundi, 10 people have already died from this pandemic out of 11,381 who have tested positive and 11,001 have recovered out of 504,871 people who have undergone the test of this pandemic.

According to the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, Dr. Jean Baptiste Nzorironkankuze, who spoke in a press briefing he held on Tuesday August 24 during a meeting of national response committee against Covid-19, indicated that the people continue to make a lot of efforts to respect the barrier measures in order to protect themselves and others against this pandemic.

However, he noted, a certain relaxation is noticeable while the pandemic is still here. The permanent secretary also indicated that with the consultation of health structures, this pandemic will be overcome.

The national pandemic response committee, according to the permanent secretary at the ministry in charge of public health, discussed the planning of urgent activities to be carried out.

Thus, he said, from the next school year, a screening campaign for Covid-19 will be organized in all boarding schools by the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and with the involvement and active participation of the provincial governors, the medical directors of the health provinces and the provincial directors of education.

The national response committee against Covid-19 is asking provincial directors and communal administrators to prepare already while awaiting the timetable for this activity which will be communicated to them. The global assessment, he said, showed that the country has taken all the necessary arrangements in place to continue to deal with this pandemic.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS also explained that the fact that the number of positive cases is gradually decreasing is a sign that the population generally respects the barrier measures to prevent Covid -19.
