RUMONGE July 26th (ABP) – As part of the project for the prevention, screening and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix, the provincial office of Rumonge, in collaboration with the NGO Cordaid, organized on Friday, July 23 2021, a workshop to coordinate screening and treatment activities for precancerous lesions of the cervix.

During the workshop which brought together people working in the health sector, the manager of the project for prevention, screening and treatment of precancerous lesions of the cervix within the NGO cordaid in Rumonge, Mrs. Béatrice Munezero, indicated that this project started in 2018.

According to the figures of the report for the first half of the year 2021, Mrs. Munezero said 5,194 women were screened in Rumonge province. Of these, she added, 73 women had precancerous lesions of the cervix. According to Mrs Munezero, the figures of women who come to be screened in health care facilities have gradually decreased compared with the start of the project because of the neglect of awareness raising and rumors discouraging the women concerned. She therefore invited women aged between 25 and 50 to be screened because, as she indicated, this disease does not present symptoms.
