Bujumbura July 5th (ABP) – The Burundi Head of State, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye paid a visit to the former market of Kamenge on July 2, 2021 to inquire about the state of play rehabilitation and extension works in that market.

After visiting different places constituting that market, the Head of State indicated that the works are normally advancing by stating that 90% of the works are already completed.

The President of the Republic pointed out that the extension of the Kamenge market will allow a large shopping center that could accommodate more traders than the old market.

The Head of State has strongly encouraged all those who contribute in those rehabilitation works and the extension of that market whose inauguration is planned in August, he announced.

According to the Chairman of the Commission responsible for the rehabilitation and extension of that market, Mr. Agricole Ntirampeba, before the fire that consumed that infrastructure, only 1500 places were available. The new market contains 1900 places, he told. He said that this market is built according to the modern techniques and the cost of the works was evaluated, during the market study, to 2 billion Burundian francs, noted Mr. Ntirampeba. However, he pointed out, an additional amount of one billion Burundian francs is planned for finishing works. Thus, 3 billion Burundian francs will be spent to finalize that construction.
