GITEGA June 21th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, asked God to fill him with blessings so that he can remain a humble servant of His people.

It was in a communication he made on the second day of prayer of thanksgiving to God, on the occasion of his first anniversary as Head of the country’s highest Office.

He asked the people to join him in begging the Almighty to answer that prayer. He took the opportunity to express his thanks to God for the facilities encountered thanks to Him, in the exercise of his functions during his first year spent in the power of the country.

He cited, among other things, good health, the abundance of agricultural production and security which reigned throughout the national territory; a government, a bicameral parliament and the institution of the ombudsman that were good collaborators.

In addition, he thanked God for the many trips made outside the country which led to the reformation of the image of Burundi in the concert of nations. He was delighted that, thanks to the inspiration of the Almighty, the screening against Covid-19 for all boarding pupils and school staff, at the start of the past school term, resulted in the prevention of that pandemic in that community.

“The successes recorded during this first year were the result of prayers made by all the leaders of religious denominations,” acknowledged President Ndayishimiye, with special mention to the wife of the late President Pierre Nkurunziza.

Previously, she had preached focusing on reconciliation. She said that the culmination of this human value comes from the recognition of the wrong committed against one’s neighbor, the humility to ask them for forgiveness and the courage to forgive.
