NGOZI, June 12th (ABP) – The CNDD-FDD party in the new province of Butanyerera (north) organised a prayer crusade in memory of the late Pierre Nkurunziza from 9 to 11 June 2024, in the provincial capital of Ngozi (north), a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

That 3-day crusade is based on the Bible verse of Timothy 4-7: “I fought the good fight, I went all the way, I kept the faith”. Through his sermons, Apostle Emile Ndikumana said that the former President of the Republic, Pierre Nkurunziza, had also fought the good fight and had gone all the way, transforming Burundi into a peaceful country. He went on to ask everyone to do their utmost to combat unacceptable behaviour, including drunkenness, concubinage and banditry, in order to develop themselves and the country.

According to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Daniel Gélase Ndabirabe, native of Butanyerera province, “the late Nkurunziza was a pleasant, intelligent man, full of love for his people”. “I had plenty of time to talk with the late Pierre Nkurunziza about the word of God, politics and our life in the bush”, said the President of the National Assembly, adding that his kindness was reflected in various programmes initiated in the country, such as free maternity and free education for children under 5 years of age, free primary school education and so on. The Speaker of the National Assembly also expressed his gratitude to the late Pierre Nkurunziza for his kindness and generosity.

The Speaker of the National Assembly recalled that the late Pierre Nkurunziza liked to ask Burundians to always do good, to be of service to others in order to end up well, the reason why he asked everyone to follow in his footsteps.

The CNDD-FDD party secretary in Butanyerera province, Ferdinand Habimana, said that that crusade was the first in Butanyerera province to commemorate President Nkurunziza’s death, adding that it was also an opportunity to remember the good works he left behind.

Mr. Ferdinand indicated that during that crusade, funds will be collected to support the Buye orphanage, which was founded by Mrs. Denise Nkurunziza, wife of the late President Nkurunziza, so that the children living there can enjoy a peaceful life.

He also mentioned the project to promote the lawyer, a culture to which the late President Nkurunziza was attached.  He pointed out that preparations are well underway to turn that plant into an export crop, with a well-organised production chain similar to that for other industrial crops such as coffee.

The first day of the crusade was attended by the country’s highest authorities from Butanyerera province, including the Burundian Ombudsman, the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of National Defence, the Minister of East African Community Affairs and others.
