NGOZI, June 14th (ABP) – The governor of Ngozi province, Désiré Minani, says he is satisfied with the agricultural production recorded during the 2024 B growing season.

In an interview with ABP on Tuesday 11 June 2024, 6502 tonnes of beans were harvested from 8128 hectares, while 35,048 tonnes of paddy rice are due to be harvested from 8762 hectares. As for potatoes, 5846 tonnes are expected to be harvested from 778 hectares. The big surprise has been an overproduction of maize, he says, with more than 34,587 tonnes already recorded in stocks.  Governor Minani points out that this maize production is much higher than these figures, because the population only brings into the stocks the surplus that is not consumed in households. Another quantity is sold to traders in Bujumbura and elsewhere.

For the 2024 C season, the governor expects a harvest of 2,680 tonnes of maize, 3,227 tonnes of rice, 1,128 tonnes of beans and 2,258 tonnes of potatoes. He is calling on farmers to stay the course so that famine is eradicated, so that the Head of State’s wish to see every mouth with enough to eat and money in every pocket becomes a reality.
