BUJUMBURA, June 14th (ABP) – As part of her “Zero Waste” programme, the First Lady of the Republic of Burundi, Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimiye, paid a visit to the BRARUNDI company on Tuesday, 11 June 2024, to find out how that company treats waste water in order to obtain biogas.

After a guided tour of the plant’s various departments, the 1st Lady then went to the site of the wastewater treatment tanks from which the biogas is obtained, which was the main objective of her visit.

In an interview with the press, the First Lady said that BRARUDI is a good example of environmental protection.

The wastewater from that plant is not discharged into Lake Tanganyika, in order to avoid threats to the lake’s biodiversity. She therefore called on other processing plants to follow that example in order to protect the environment, pointing out that most of those plants channel their wastewater into rivers or Lake Tanganyika, which poses a threat to the environment.
