RUMONGE, June 12th (ABP) – A measles response campaign is being organised from 13 to 17 June 2024 in the two health districts that make up Rumonge province, according to the head doctor of the Rumonge health district, Dr Alexis Nkurunziza, in an interview with ABP on 10 June 2024.

According to Dr. Nkurunziza, the campaign was prompted by the fact that a large number of children were showing signs of measles. He explained that vaccination against those epidemic concerns child aged between 6 and 59 months, whether or not they have already been vaccinated.

While some local families are still neglecting the vaccine, Dr Nkurunziza pointed out that many diseases can be prevented by vaccination, including measles, deploring the fact that some children are not fully vaccinated.

He explained that those children can benefit from a single dose, i.e. they are vaccinated at 9 months or 18 months. As Dr Nkurunziza pointed out, those children are much more at risk than others.

The head doctor of the Rumonge health district called on administrative staff at all levels and the general public to become more involved so that all the children concerned could be vaccinated.

Note that that campaign to combat the measles epidemic will be coupled with the distribution of vitamin A and albendazole deworming.
