GITEGA, June 12th (ABP) – Burundi Head of State, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, urged the members of the government, the top and middle-level cadres of the country to work as servants of the people and not as civil servants of any company.

That is the best strategy to lead the government’s vision to a good port, that of an emerging Burundi in 2040 and a developed Burundi in 2060, he specified.

President Ndayishimiye delivered those remarks on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Ingoma stadium in Gitega (central), where he led a moralization session on the said vision, addressed to the high-ranking personalities.

To buttress his remarks, President Ndayishimiye said that that vision seeks to ensure that every Burundian citizen has access to well-being and that inequalities are reduced.

To achieve that, he called on the audience to pull the citizens towards a cash crop agriculture and industrialization, in order to increase exports and, consequently, to have the foreign exchange that Burundi needs, he indicated. He expressed the wish for the success of the next elections so that Burundi be endowed with the right leaders to effectively implement the national vision. Thus, he recommended that the independent national electoral commission (CENI) get to work for that purpose.

Before that moralization session, the head of the strategic studies and development office, Mr. Alain Ndikumana, gave an inaugural presentation on the scope of the government’s vision, where he indicated that that vision is a long-term process that requires strong commitment from all stakeholders and that requires a fundamental change in mentalities and traditional governance practices, he stressed.
