BUJUMBURA, June 11th (ABP) – On Friday June 7, 2024, Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca chaired the 8th meeting of the National Orientation Committee for the General Census of Population, Housing, Agriculture and Livestock, RGPHAE.

In his speech, Nicolas Ndayishimiye, Director General of the National Institute of Statistics of Burundi (INSBU), indicated that the primary aim of the meeting was to take stock of the implementation of the recommendations of the committee’s previous meeting, held in March 2024. According to him, 100% of the planned activities have been carried out.

Secondly, the committee examined the evaluation of the main censual mapping, which took place from December 16, 2023 to May 15, 2024, with a rate of 100%.

It noted a number of challenges encountered during the process, which it felt had been resolved. Those challenges related to fuel supplies, the lack of control of administrative territorial boundaries by local administrative authorities, and the procurement procedure, which had to take into account the complexity of the census.

Prospects have been set for future training courses for staff at all levels. Those are scheduled to run from August 16 to September 8.

Finally, the committee examined the analysis of the questionnaire. It was recommended that each department should draw up its own questionnaire for its own sector. According to Mr. Ndayishimiye, those different questionnaires will then be re-analysed to make improvements to the questionnaire that will be used for the census.
