The 2024 military championship has ended

GITEGA, May 29th (ABP) – The head of the Burundi National Defence Force (FDNB), General Prime Niyongabo, accompanied by other Burundian army officials, closed the 2023-2024 military championship organised by the FDNB on Saturday 25 May at the commando centre of the second infantry division in Gitega (central Burundi), a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

The competitions during that championship, which lasted five days, ended with practice shootings on the Tankoma hill in the Gitega rural area in the commune and province of Gitega. The Special Brigade for the Protection of Institutions (BSPI) took first place, followed by the Second Infantry Division of Gitega in second place, and the training unit in third place.

In the practice firing, the Second Infantry Division from Gitega took first place, followed by the BSPI.

In his speech on the occasion, the head of the FDNB reminded the soldiers that sports training is a key element for a soldier to carry out his duty properly. He pointed out that the championship had gone well, and that it was a good opportunity to strengthen the unity and morale of the military.

He thanked the soldiers who took part in the championship for their courage and discipline. He said that they had noted where reinforcement was needed in order to build a solid army. That is why, he pointed out, the FDNB’s activities for 2024-2025 will include capacity-building for managers, as well as field exercises for soldiers to put into practice what they have learned.
