KARUSI, May 21st (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, inaugurated on Friday May 17 a mini electricity network using solar energy at Shanga hill in Buhiga commune, Karusi province (east-central Burundi).

It is an electrical network built for social and profit purposes, said President Ndayishimiye, who indicated that that network will serve as lighting for the population of the peace village and the Kamahoro market on the one hand, and as a source of energy for various local entrepreneurs on the other hand, notably cooperatives which have mills, ginning machines and sewing machines.

That project, launched in 2020, has been achieved in nine provinces, including Karusi, and in 33 communes, including Buhiga.

The ministries responsible for Public Health, National Education and Hydraulics benefited more from that project.

President Ndayishimiye congratulated the beneficiaries and asked them to carefully maintain the donations, to remember that it is free to avoid rising costs. From the provincial governor, the President of the Republic requested agricultural land for cooperatives that need it because, he said, there are uncultivated areas.
