First partnership dialogue between Burundi and the European Union within the framework of the Samoa Agreement

BUJUMBURA, May 24th (ABP) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Mr. Albert Nshingiro, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Burundi, Mrs. Elisabeth Pietrobon, and the diplomatic heads of member states , namely Germany, Belgium, France, Finland and the Netherlands held on Tuesday May 21, 2024, in Bujumbura, the first session of the partnership dialogue within the framework of the Samoa agreement linked to a on the one hand by the countries of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, and on the other hand by the EU and its Member States.

With the aim of consolidating friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation, the two sides exchanged views on topics of common interest, including the modalities of EU-Burundi cooperation, the economic situation and business climate, the rule of law and human rights, as well as cooperation at regional and international level.

Regarding security issues, the same parties reaffirmed their attachment to the Charter of the United Nations and in particular to its principles of peace, dialogue, mutual respect, non-interference in the internal affairs of other States, territorial integrity and peaceful resolution of disputes.

The two parties welcomed the constructive climate which governed their exchanges, stressing that the continuation of the partnership dialogue is inspired by a shared desire for commitment for the benefit of the Burundian and European people.
