Handover ceremonies between the outgoing and incoming presidents of the CENI

BUJUMBURA January 19th  (ABP) – The outgoing president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Pierre Claver Kazihise and the incoming president, Prosper Ntahorwamiye, proceeded, Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in Bujumbura, to the handover and resumption .

The outgoing president said that among the files he handed over to the incoming president are the action plan which contains the activities that will be carried out during that pre-electoral year 2024, the draft personnel regulations, certain legal files against the CENI, the file relating to the construction of the CENI headquarters, specifying that there is already a geotechnical study report and an estimated quantitative estimate of the constructions and the construction plan which is already at OBUHA.

Regarding the annexes relating to those files, he cited the constitution of the Republic of Burundi, the organic law relating to the electoral code, the laws on communal administration, the laws on political parties, the law on the delimitation of provinces, communes, zones, villages and neighborhoods, the decree establishing the statutes of the members of the CENI and others. He wished the incoming president and his team every success.

For his part, the incoming president congratulated the outgoing president and his team for successfully organizing the 2020 elections. He promised that the incoming team will do everything possible to ensure that the elections are carried out correctly while respecting the rules of the art.

Concerning the electoral code, he specified that the latter was analyzed at the level of the Council of Ministers and that soon, it will be analyzed at the level of the Burundian parliament to be promulgated by the Head of State. While waiting for that promulgation, there are a lot of pre-electoral activities to be done, said the new president of the CENI.
