BUJUMBURA, September 28th (ABP) – The Swallow Ladies qualified, on Tuesday September 26, 2023, for the second round of the qualifiers for the African Women’s Cup of Nations which will be held in 2024 in Morocco. They qualified at the expense of Ethiopia, at the end of the penalty shootout.
Thus, during the return match that the Swallows played in Ethiopia, the two teams drew 1-1. As the 2 teams drew the same score during the first leg, which the Swallows played as a home match, they had to be separated by the penalty shootout. Burundi thus qualified by scoring 5 goals against 3 for Ethiopia.
Burundi will play Algeria in the second round of qualifying, Algeria having defeated Uganda in the 1st round of the qualifiers of Women’s CAN 2024. The second round matches are scheduled for November and December 2023.
