The Prime Minister received in audience a technical team from the World Bank

BUJUMBURA September 21st  (ABP) – The Prime Minister, Mr. Gervais Ndirakobuca, received in audience, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the resident representative of the World Bank in Burundi, Mrs. Hawa Cissé Wagué, at the head of a technical team of the World Bank responsible for preparing budget support for Burundi.

According to Mrs. Wagué, this team is in Burundi at the request of the government. She will endeavor to provide support so that the government can support the economic and structural reforms that Burundi is committed to implementing. “The Burundian Prime Minister showed himself committed to continuing to work to finalize the preparation of budget support,” according to the resident representative of the WB. She added that the measures that will be adopted will allow Burundi to be more competitive and mitigate exogenous shocks linked to the reforms that the government has undertaken.

According to the spokesperson for the Prime Minister, Mr. Moise Nkurunziza, to achieve the creation of a good economic environment, priority areas were the subject of discussions. Those include: digitalization in the collection of taxes; facilitate access to credit on behalf of the private sector, facilitate investors to invest in the nickel mining sector.

Mr. Nkurunziza said that both parties noted that challenges still lie ahead.

That concerns the insufficiency of electrical energy to cover the entire country, which slows down investment in areas of industrial transformation. Likewise, the low speed of the Internet also slows down the potential of investors who need high-speed Internet in their electronic transactions.
