BUJUMBURA September 4th (ABP) – The Cabinet Members met on Wednesday August 30, 2023 in Bujumbura, under the chairmanship of the Head of State, Evariste Ndayishimiye. According to the press release from the State secretary general and government spokesperson, Prosper Ntahorwamiye, among the items analyzed is the bill on ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the convention on the privileges and immunities of the global fund to fight AIDS, the tuberculosis and malaria which was presented by the Minister of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, Dr. Sylvie Nzeyimana.

Since the launch of its activities in 2002, the fund has already approved 16 grant agreements in favor of Burundi. Support from the global fund contributes to the purchase of medicines up to 100% of Burundi’s needs for tuberculosis, 90% for AIDS and 85% for malaria, including 100% of the mosquito nets for the mass campaign. To date, four grants are being implemented and one of them has a closing date of December 31, 2025, while the other three will close on December 31, 2023. That ratification is a continuation of the commitments already made by the Republic of Burundi on the occasion of the signing of the framework agreement with the global fund in November 2015.

Following the signing of that Agreement, the convention on the privileges and immunities of the global fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria was signed by the Republic of Burundi on August 10, 2016. Ratification of the convention constitutes thus the last stage of a procedure already initiated.
