Burundi has hosted the world championship “Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Bujumbura Futures”

BUJUMBURA August 22nd (ABP) – Burundi hosted, from August 17 to 21, 2023, at Petit Bassam beach, the world beach volleyball championship called “Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Bujumbura Futures”.

A total of 15 countries participated in the tournament: Burundi, The Gambia, Austria, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Cameroon, England, Germany, Israel, Morocco, Spain, Colombia, Sweden and Norway.

Each team is made up of two players. Burundi was represented by 5 teams, 2 for the ladies and 3 for the men.

Three teams from Burundi (one men’s team and 2 women’s teams) reached the quarter-final stage but were defeated; hence they could not advance to the semi-finals, despite their performances.

At the semi-final stage, on the women’s side, the matches opposed Austria and Israel in the first match. The match was won by Austria with the score of 2 sets to 0.

The 2nd match opposed Spain to Germany. The match was won by Spain at the expense of Germany with the score of 2 sets to 0.

The semi-finals on the men’s side opposed, in a first match, Sweden to Israel. Israel won the match with 2 sets to 0.

During the second match, Germany won against England with a score of 2 sets to 1. During the women’s small final, Germany won against Israel with a score of 2 sets to 0. The women’s final opposed Spain to Austria. The women’s team from Spain was victorious and was crowned champion of the tournament by defeating Austria with 2 sets to 0.

On the men’s side, Germany was crowned champion of the tournament after defeating Israel with 2 sets against 1.
