The Head of State has received in audience the United States Ambassador to Burundi

BUJUMBURA July 10th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye received, on Friday July 7, in the Ntare Rushatsi House, the United States Ambassador to Burundi, Mrs. Mélanie Harris Higgins who came to bid him her farewell because her term is coming to an end.

At the end of the audience, Mrs. Harris Higgins praised the way in which she worked with the Head of State in particular and with the government of Burundi in general during her term of more than 2 years, especially by strengthening bilateral relations between the United States and Burundi. She added that the United States congratulates President Ndayishimiye for the various reforms he has launched in different macroeconomic sectors. This is particularly the case for the strengthening of good governance, the fight against corruption, respect for human rights and the fight against human trafficking. According to that diplomat, those reforms will expand Burundi’s economy and allow partners to continue to increase their assistance to Burundi.

For her part, the spokesperson for the President of the Republic of Burundi, Mrs. Rosine Guilène Gatoni, said that the Head of State commended the way in which the United States Ambassador to Burundi worked with the State of Burundi and promised her that this country is ready to work well with her successor. The Head of State wished her every success in her future duties.
