BUJUMBURA May 24th (ABP) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation (MAECD) organized, from Tuesday 23 to 24 May 2023, an open day 2023 edition under the theme “Economic diplomacy for development in the era of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).

The first day of that event was characterized by a guided tour of the various ambassadors accredited to Burundi in the premises of the said ministry.

In her opening remarks, Marie Ancille Ntakaburimvo, adviser to the minister’s office and chairperson of the committee in charge of preparing the event, indicated that the ministry’s objective in organizing that activity is to inform the Burundian public and the ministry’s partners who wish to do so about everything the ministry does.

Regarding the arguments or criticisms raised during that guided tour, Mrs. Ntakaburimvo highlighted the issue of the diaspora that would like to have services close to them, without necessarily returning to Burundi.  In response to that concern, she said that Burundi’s representations abroad issue so-called “Laissez passer” documents in lieu of passports, which make it easier for them to travel to Burundi where they can easily obtain them.
