International Women’s Day Celebration

CIBITOKE March 10th (ABP) – The Vice President of the Republic, Mr. Prosper Bazombanza, along with Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca, members of the government, parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic corps, wives of former presidents of the country and other senior executives, honored with his presence, on Wednesday March 8, 2023 in Buganda commune, Cibitoke province, the ceremonies marking International Women’s Day under the theme “committed leadership for innovative digitalization in favor of gender equality”.

Those ceremonies began with a long parade of the country’s institutions and women’s organizations.

In his speech, the Vice President of the Republic, called on women to take the lead in digitalization, with a view to development. He specified that digitization is known as the basis of technology for the development, and the evaluation of the stage reached in the development projects. He urged women to use ICTs (information and communication technologies) in strict compliance with the law while safeguarding Burundian culture. He asked leaders and stakeholders in women’s rights to do everything against the barriers that prevent women’s access to innovative digitalization.

For his part, the permanent secretary at the ministry in charge of human rights, Mr. Pontien Hatungimana, asked for the involvement of leaders in the promotion of innovative digitalization in favor of gender equality. He indicated that digitization does not spare any sector, adding that it facilitates trade and information, in real time. To achieve this innovation, Mr. Hatungimana pleaded for the promotion of human rights, the education of girls and the electrification of all corners of the country in favor of ICTs.
