BUJUMBURA February 17th (ABP) – The Minister of Interior, Community Development and Public Security, Mr. Martin Niteretse, released on Thursday, February 16, 2023, a statement through which he reported that the situation of the country has continued to improve since early the current legislature.

According to Minister Niteretse, the situation which characterized the country at the end of 2022 was very good throughout the territory of Burundi. He pointed out that the massive flows of citizens from neighboring countries to Burundi, particularly from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to celebrate the end-of-year ceremonies, the recent arrival of all Heads of State of the East African Community (EAC) in Bujumbura…, constitute an eloquent testimony to that haven of peace that Burundi is experiencing today.

Mr. Niteretse reported that in the middle of February 2023, the situation remains very good throughout the country. People go about their activities normally throughout the territory and the administrative mobilization towards development sites is unprecedented, he said with joy, while stressing that the country is therefore taking advantage of the dividends of peace to achieve its future economic acme.

Nevertheless, the ministry responsible for public security takes issue with any person who, jealous of this situation of peace, of this enthusiasm towards Burundi and its development consequently, issues false alerts on imaginary situations of insecurity in certain localities of the country, with the objective of tarnishing the image of the country, in order to discourage visitors of Burundi who, currently, come massively for holidays, investments or other personal occupations.

To that end, Minister Niteretse took the opportunity to deny, with the utmost energy, those baseless rumors, and reassure everyone about that general security situation, which is very good throughout the territory of Burundi. “The situation is very good in the interior of the country and relations with other countries, including those bordering Burundi, continue to improve day by day,” he said.

Thus, the Ministry of the Interior, Community Development and Public Security invites the population to redouble their efforts to preserve this situation of peace while remaining united, mobilized for development activities and always vigilant, so that nothing brings back the divisions that have produced only tears, accompanied by a nameless poverty that the country is still struggling to get rid of.

He finally invited the security forces to redouble their vigilance while working in synergy with the population and all the other actors, to protect the population and their property as well as the borders and the country in general, so that this stage of peace, dearly regained continues to be consolidated and that it continues to be a good start for economic acme.
