Adoption of the Agreement between the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of Burundi on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports

BUJUMBURA January 16th (ABP) – The National Assembly met in plenary on Friday, January 13, 2023, to analyze and pass the bill on the ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the Agreement between the government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Burundi on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports.

Mr. Ezéchiel Nibigira, Minister of East African Community Affairs, Youth, Sports and Culture, represented that of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, in order to explain the bill to the members of parliament. Indeed, he pointed out that the bill will strengthen relations between Burundi and Indonesia.

According to him, “this agreement responds to the concern to see the two nations further develop their friendly relations and facilitate the movement of their respective nationals, in compliance with the principle of equality and reciprocity”. He also said that the government of Burundi concludes that type of agreement with the States with which it has long had good relations.

He added that holders of diplomatic or service passports thus benefit from increased freedom of movement in both countries. After substantive and formal amendments, the bill on the ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the Agreement between the government of the Republic of Indonesia and the government of the Republic of Burundi on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports, was passed unanimously.
