In his speech, Mr. Nganikiye said that the government of Burundi has a vast program of reforms in several sectors in order to increase the chances of the country’s development and social well-being. The electricity sector receives special attention in this reform with great innovation.

Mr. Nganikiye did not fail to point out that the government of Burundi obtained a grant from the World Bank to finance jointly with other donors, the construction project of the CH of JiJi -Murembwe in order to increase the energy supply in Burundi.

To that end, the Director General of AREEN indicated that this workshop aims to discuss the study made by the consultant Mrs. Monique Bolmin. This study will help the country improve the energy sector, he said, by calling on investors to come and invest in this area. He said there are some institutions which have already signed contracts like Kirasa Energy which was signed in 2009 and Songa Energy in 2021. This effectively increases the energy supply.

Finally, to give hope to the people, he invoked that there are a number of projects already carried out, in particular the inauguration of the Ruzibazi dam in the province of Rumonge and he affirms that soon there will be the opening of the Kaburantwa dam in Cibitoke province and that of Murembwe in Bururi province.
