KARUSI August 5th (ABP) – Vast of 11 hectares, the Kibenga swamp in Bugenyuzi commune will be a radiation swamp, as said by the director of the Provincial Office of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock (BPEAE), Mr. Jean Séverin Sinzobatohana, who requested support from the Burundi 2000+ Network for this season C.

Usually, the Kibenga swamp was used for crops of maize, beans, potatoes and sweet potatoes, according to the occupants found on the site. The latter have been made aware of the nutritional importance of vegetables, they say. “We have accepted to abandon old crops in favor of vegetables to eat and sell”, admit the growers.

The communal administrator of Bugenyuzi, Mr. Jacques Mucowera, reports an apparent lack of vegetables on the market and points out that the commune gets its supplies from Mutoyi in Bugendana commune of Gitega province. That radiant swamp will revolutionize its commune in vegetables, he confirms.

The director of the BPEAE thanks the Burundi 2000+ Network which supported by the supply of seeds, fertilizers and phytosanitary products.
