BUJUMBURA February 10th (ABP) – The Mayor of the Bujumbura City Council, Mr. Jimmy Hatungimana held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, a press briefing on the progress of the tax declaration and payment campaign and taxes as well as the strategies to adopt to maximize revenues.

Mr. Hatungimana said that the reporting period began on January 3, 2022 and will end on March 30, 2022. He stressed that the administrators must help to collect those revenues on time.

He also specified that penalties will be applied to taxpayers who do not properly pay taxes and duties from February 15, 2022, adding that any administrative document issued by the Bujumbura City Hall will be conditioned by proof of payment of property tax.

There will also be the requirement to carry a household notebook in the event of a request for any administrative document in the Town Hall, he underlined, in order to facilitate the verification of the payment of tax and duty as well as the taxpayer’s address.

According to the mayor of the Bujumbura City Council, the communes, zones and neighborhoods will facilitate the verification of the payment of taxes and duties by producing informative documents so that the information is brought to everyone’s attention.

The mayor of the Bujumbura City Council also made a strong appeal to taxpayers, inviting them to pay their taxes and duties within the time limits prescribed by law number 1/02 of March 3, 2016, to avoid penalties, while thanking taxpayers who love tax citizenship.
