BUJUMBURA January 28th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, held on Wednesday January 26 in the headquarters of Mutimbuzi commune in Bujumbura province (western Burundi), a security meeting for bodies of defense, security and the judiciary to assess the security that prevailed in that province during the end-of-year holidays, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

In his welcoming address, the governor of that province, Désiré Nsengiyumva, indicated that security is good in the nine communes, thanks to the proper functioning of the joint security committees, adding that great attention is directed towards the border communes to the Democratic Republic of the Congo because that country harbors terrorist movements.

He also reported that the people are getting down to development work, it is time to harvest and prepare for the B 2022 cropping season.

At the end of the meeting, the deputy spokesman for the President of the Republic, Alain Diomède Nzeyimana indicated that it was a meeting to assess security after the Christmas and New Year holidays. The fact is that they went well. The President of the Republic took that opportunity to congratulate the joint security committees which behaved well and which protected the country from all danger, said Mr. Nzeyimana.

If today there is security, that does not mean that there is no more conspiracy on the part of criminals, warned the deputy spokesman for the president, pointing out that it is rather because those who take care of it work a lot.

The President of the Republic asked the quadrilogy to redouble its efforts to prevent the bands of terrorists who are based in the DRC such as the ADF from settling in Burundi, he said.

The meeting was held at the time of the agricultural campaign of the harvest for season A but also of the preparation of the cropping season B and everyone is satisfied with the results, he said.

As peace and security are there, said Mr. Nzeyimana, we must see how to improve them by strengthening good governance, good management of the national heritage, pointing out that there are foreign investors who arrive in the country and who are defrauded, which tarnishes the image of the country, he regretted. This can be a source of insecurity, he noted, before adding that another source of insecurity in Burundi is injustice because the population keeps complaining that some magistrates ask them for money or do not interpret the law correctly.

President Ndayishimiye wanted the grievances of the population to be dealt with at the low level because the time they use to go to see the minister should be used for work.

If that were the case, they would have a good production. He recalled that it is necessary to use digitalization which is a means of properly calculating production and seeing how to improve the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Even if the GDP improved, there was no tool to prove it to international opinion and sometimes Burundi is classified in the red compared to other countries but it is not their fault because they use the data that we give them, added the deputy spokesperson for the president.

Speaking of the economy, the president’s spokesperson announced that from now on, the national budget for the year 2022-2023 will be decentralized to the municipalities and that it will be voted taking into account the proposals and needs of the population.

The President of the Republic closed the meeting by congratulating the guests and expressed the wish that during the next security assessment meeting at the end of February, the security situation would be even better.
