NGOZI November 4th (ABP) – The National Social Dialogue Committee (CNDS) wants to involve workers in respecting barrier measures to prevent and combat the COVID-19 pandemic which has caused heavy losses in the workplace, Perfect Nkerabagenzi, CNDS technical advisor, said on Tuesday.

It has caused deaths for both employees and employers, a drop in the productivity of companies and public services following absences linked to the disease. The pandemic has also caused job losses and the closure of services and businesses leading to an increase in the number of unemployed people in the country. The national economy and that of households are also severely affected.

According to Parfait Nkerabagenzi, workers and their employees tend to play consumer rather than actively involve themselves in respecting the barrier measures decreed by the government of Burundi. It is therefore to encourage more involvement in the management of the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace that the CNDS has brought together since Tuesday the members of the provincial social dialogue committees of the provinces of the north of the country in the occurrence Ngozi, Kayanza, Muyinga and Kirundo.

It is about building the capacity of public sector employers, workers’ representatives from the government side to make them more useful and effective in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. It was therefore to encourage employers and workers to put together their efforts to be able to strengthen themselves in order to enforce the barrier measures of prevention against COVID-19. It is also an opportunity to discuss occupational diseases and the means to deal with them.
