BUJUMBURA June 7th (ABP) – The local NGO Word and Action for Awakening Consciousness and Changing Mentalities (PARCEM) organized on Friday June 4, 2021, in Bujumbura, a press conference to talk about the situation of trade in strategic products such as cement, sugar and other economic activities.

The chairman of PARCEM, Mr. Faustin Ndikumana, said that the shortage of strategic products such as cement and sugar has been observed for some time in Burundi.

PARCEM links this to the lack of an independent structure that can investigate and bring the situation to light.

“When SOSUMO affirms that sugar production is sufficient, it should organize the marketing of this product,” said Mr. Ndikumana, adding that what matters for citizens is to be able to find sugar in the market. He therefore pleads for liberalization in the sugar trade.
