National launch of the pruning and mulching campaign

CANKUZO, August 9th (ABP) – The assistant to the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock Mr. Léonard Butoyi, proceeded on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 on Rwamvura hill in Kigamba district of Cankuzo province, to the national launch of the pruning and mulching campaign for coffee trees.

The assistant to the minister Mr. Léonard Butoyi indicated that coffee growing is very beneficial to household development. It also generates foreign currency for the country. For this reason, its promotion is necessary to contribute more to development, he stressed.

According to him, if the coffee trees are well maintained, the harvest can increase by up to 40%. He called on the population to redouble their efforts in promoting this crop not only in terms of quantity of harvest but also in terms of quality. Mr. Butoyi took the opportunity to call on village leaders and agricultural monitors to properly maintain coffee equipment and take the lead in the fight against fraud.

As for the government, it reiterated its commitment to promoting this crop through awareness-raising and other actions that can facilitate its development.
