GITEGA, August 7th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, received in audience, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in his palace in Gitega (center of the country), Mrs. Sibi Lawson-Marriot, the new director and representative of the World Food Program (WFP) to Burundi.
Their discussions focused on local food supply and the expansion of school canteens throughout the country, as the deputy spokesperson for the Burundian Head of State, Mr. Sébastien Ntahongendera and Mrs. Sibi, revealed to the press at the end of the audience.
“Our intention is to support the Burundian government in expanding this very important program for children and their families,” she insisted.
She added that she would like the Burundian government to promote local purchases of food to provide them to children in school.
For Mrs. Sibi, “There is no reason why Burundi cannot provide supplies to its citizens and even to other countries in the region.”
