GITEGA, August 6th (ABP) – The First Lady of Burundi, Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimiye, honored with her presence on Saturday, August 3, 2024, the ceremonies marking the celebration of the communal Day in the Giheta District. Those ceremonies took place in Murayi Village, Kabanga County of Giheta District in the province of Gitega (central Burundi).

In her message for the occasion, First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye said that in the implementation of the zero waste campaign, the population is called upon to avoid throwing waste anywhere, but rather in the trash bins set up for that purpose.

It is for that reason that she invited the population of Giheta to take the lead in implementing the said campaign that she initiated since March 2024. She also called on the natives of the District who have the means to contribute to the success of this objective.

The administrator of the Giheta District, Mrs. Micheline Ninahaza, read the message by the Minister in charge of the Interior, relating to the celebration of that Day.

In that message, Minister Martin Niteretse invited the District administration to plan their activities in line with the Vision of the country 2040-2060; to set up PTBAs that can ensure the increase of district revenues; to prepare village development plans; to multiply tree seedlings and to draw contour lines during community works. The Administrator of Giheta District took the opportunity to award certificates of honor and an envelope to the natives of the district who stood out in their contribution to its development, with a view to encouraging them in their initiatives.

Also note that the Giheta traders’ association and the Gishora drummers’ club offered the presidential family two heifers in recognition of the Giheta District development initiatives undertaken by that family.

Therefore, it was an opportune moment for the natives of Giheta to share in a jovial atmosphere traditional dishes and drinks produced locally.
